Dinner Rolls

Dinner Rolls - delicious, light, soft and warm! Very easy to make! Dinner Rolls - this recipe has been a favorite recipe for years!

Ingredients

  • 5 cups all-purpose flour, more or less as needed
  • 2 cups whole milk, warm (warmed to 110 degrees)
  • 1 cup salted butter, at room temperature, divided
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 2 ½ teaspoons salt
  • 1 egg
  • 5 tablespoons melted butter, for brushing on top
  • sea salt, for sprinkling on top

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm milk and let stand for five minutes, or until foamy. Add the butter, salt and egg. Blend mixture until combine. Add 2 cups flour and mix until combined. Add remaining flour, until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl and is only slightly sticky to the touch (be careful not to add too much flour).
  2. Knead 4-5 minutes, until smooth. Scrape the dough out into a greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rise in a warm place until doubled size. I place mine in a warming drawer, so it only takes about 30 minutes, but depending how warm the area you place it in is, it may take up to over an hour.
  3. Spray standard sized baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray, set aside.
  4. Dust your work surface with flour.
  5. When the dough has doubled in size, punch dough down and divide dough into two equal portions. Shape each portion into a ball. Roll each dough ball out on a lightly floured surface into a large circle about 13 inches across
  6. Spread each circle of dough evenly with butter. Cut each circle into 16 wedges. Roll each wedge up, beginning on wide (outside) edge.
  7. Transfer rolls on prepared baking sheet, point-side down.
  8. Cover rolls loosely with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place until double size, about 1 hour.
  9. During the last 10 minutes of rising preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  10. Remove plastic wrap and bake rolls in preheated oven 15-20 minutes until they are browned to your satisfaction.
  11. Remove from oven and brush with remaining butter while hot and sprinkle with sea salt
  12. Serve warm or allow to cool
