Air Fryer Veggie Fries

You probably want to know what the story is behind these air fryer veggie fries. After all, us Milner’s have been air frying for a decade and you probably want to know when the air fryer veggie fries became our thing!

Well it goes back to 2015 when we first followed the paleo diet and we started off by cooking air fryer carrot fries.

But it soon turned into a night before grocery shopping Milner family tradition.

We would look at what vegetables was in the bottom of the fridge and use them towards a fridge clear out dinner. Ideally, we were looking for root vegetables that could be cooked for dinner together and that would feed the five of us.

Quite often, we would have courgettes (also known as zucchini), carrots, butternut squash or pumpkin and some sweet potato that needed using up.

It didn’t matter if it was just one small courgette, two ugly looking carrots and butternut squash I had forgotten about. Because once sliced into fries, the vegetables together would make quite a collection.

We would then air fry our root vegetables and serve them with whatever meat we were having for dinner. Though, usually when we are having root vegetables an air fryer roast chicken would be close by.

So, if you have ever wondered what us Milner’s eat the most when we are not creating new recipes for you, then there is a big chance it is roast chicken and air fryer veggie fries.

Best Veggie Fries?

There is no right or wrong answer here. There are a lot of different veggies that make delicious veggie fries.

My favourites are any of the following:

  • Air Fryer Rutabaga Fries
  • Air Fryer Butternut Squash Fries
  • Air Fryer Carrot Fries
  • Air Fryer Pumpkin Fries
  • Air Fryer Zucchini Fries
  • Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

Note, that all the links above are clickable and take you to an individual recipe with that vegetable. That is because those above are the best veggie fries and you can do any of them in the air fryer.

All the above are also ideal for mixing and matching and cooking together as vegetable fries too.

Ideally, choose from the above with what root vegetables you have in right now.

Zucchini & Carrot Fries

Though what I do make the most is zucchini (aka courgette) and carrot fries. This is because I tend to buy these two vegetables the most.

You can guarantee that at any time you will find zucchini and carrots in the bottom of my fridge. I just love them and paired together they make a fantastic quick side for dinner.

You would think that pairing zucchini which cooks fast and is not a root vegetable, with carrots would be a recipe for disaster.

But the zucchini handles a longer cook time well and the liquid from the wet zucchini makes the carrots more moist.

Air Fryer Veggie Chips

Of course, if you live in the UK you may call them air fryer veggie chips. They mean the exact same thing as air fryer veggie fries, just a different name, depending on which side of the Atlantic you live.

Notes

WW. These vegetable fries are ideal for both Weight Watchers and Slimming World. That is because the only food that is not free is the extra virgin olive oil. Split that between four people and its just 1/3 of a teaspoon per person. Plus some always travels into the bottom of the air fryer.

Swaps. Mix and match whichever vegetables that you have in. I love butternut squash and sweet potatoes the most, but any I have mentioned in this recipe work well.

Crispy. I cooked my veggie fries for an extra 12 minutes to improve on the crisp. If you don’t want them crispy, then you can stop the cook time at 20 minutes.

Thanks for reading our air fryer veggie fries recipe on Recipe This. We have many more air fryer recipes for you to check out next. Though if you love veggies, then I recommend you try our air fryer carrots and potatoes.
